Zelia M. Correa, MD, PhD renowned for her expertise in ocular oncology and vitreoretinal surgery, has assumed the presidency of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO). The appointment came following elections held during the FSO's Annual Business Meeting on Saturday, June 7, in Orlando.

JACKSONVILLE, FL. – (June 16, 2025) – On Saturday, June 7, the Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO) presented annual society awards to members during its Annual Business Meeting.

What Ophthalmology Practices Can Do

The FSO Mentorship Program is designed to connect FSO residents and fellows with experienced ophthalmologists that are members of the FSO to provide personal, professional and leadership development. Mentees are matched with mentors based on the information gathered through the application process. Mentees can also select up to three mentor candidates from the list of FSO mentors. Forms

There has been a recent change in the Florida law regarding co-management of patients. The new law took effect on July 1, 2013. The Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO) and its general counsel have worked closely with OMIC to develop two sample forms to aid you in compliance with the new law.

Because Florida law currently fails to describe the recognized risks of cataract surgery, a substantial number of "recognized risks" associated with cataract surgery continue to be improperly reported to regulators as "Code 15" adverse incidents.

At the FSO Board of Directors meeting held this past June, the Board adopted the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s position on the use of medicinal marijuana for the treatment of glaucoma.
