ALERT - CMS Responds to Academy, ASRS Concerns on Intravitreal Injections, Abandons Bundling Plan

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will not bundle patient eye visit codes with intravitreal injections after all. CMS notified the Academy Wednesday that it would not reinstate the bundling edits of CPT 92012 and 92014 as announced in April. The Academy recently asked CMS to clarify the National Correct Coding Initiative edits that caused several problems last year. The Academy worked with the American Society of Retina Specialists to educate CMS about intravitreal injections. The groups explained that sometimes patients need a full comprehensive examination to determine the need for an injection
