Cataract Surgery Lowers IOP in Chronic Angle Closure Glaucoma
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Investigators evaluated the effect of cataract surgery on IOP in 56 patients with narrow angles and chronic angle-closure glaucoma. Mean IOP reduction in all eyes was 3.28 mm Hg (18%), with 88% experiencing a drop in IOP. IOP reduction was significantly correlated with preop IOP (r = 0.68, P < .001). In eyes with a preop IOP above 20 mm Hg, the mean decrease was 5.3 mm Hg; in the 15 mm Hg or less group, IOP decreased 1.4 mm Hg. Magnitude of IOP reduction was weakly correlated with anterior chamber depth. Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, October 2014
