PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO), the preeminent professional association for medical and osteopathic doctors who specialize in vision care, installed Jaime H. Membreno, MD, as President at its Annual Meeting, Masters in Ophthalmology 2013, held June 28-30 in Palm Beach, FL.

As FSO President, Dr. Membreno will help lead the nonprofit association, which represents more than 500 medical doctors focused on protecting the medical and surgical specialty of ophthalmology. In addition to active participation in legislative advocacy and the dissemination of responsible information to physicians and patients throughout the state, the FSO also provides continuing medical education opportunities.

Dr. Membreno is a third generation board-certified ophthalmologist. He is founder and director of the Retina Macula Specialists, with locations in Kissimmee and Orlando, FL. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida School of Medicine, and an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Central Florida, School of Medicine. Dr. Membreno has been commissioned as a Major in the United States Air Force Reserve, Medical Corps since 2010.

Dr. Membreno has given numerous scientific and medical presentations and investigations at national and international meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS).

Dr. Membreno received his Bachelor of Arts & Sciences from the University of Virginia and his Medical Degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed an internship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey, an ophthalmology residency at Temple University Hospital, and a fellowship in retina and vitreous surgery at Yale University School of Medicine.
