Study Finds 6.5-fold Rise in Cataract Surgery Rate
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
This analysis of trends in lens extraction over the past 20 years in the Beaver Dam Eye Study shows that the incidence of cataract surgery has increased in patients older than age 65, and that the increase of surgery is higher in patients without any clinically significant lens opacity and in patients whose visual acuity was better than 20/40 in the five years before their lens was removed. An accompanying editorial comments on the implications of these findings. Ophthalmology, January 2014
