Truth and Transparency Bill Gains Five Additional Cosponsors

From the American Academy of Ophthalmology

Academy-backed legislation to improve transparency in the health care system and increase patient awareness about the professionals providing their health care picked up five more co-sponsors following the Academy's annual Mid-Year Forum last month. Due to the efforts of Academy members during Congressional Advocacy Day, the Healthcare Truth and Transparency Act (H.R. 451) added Reps. Candice Miller, R-Mich.; Rob Andrews, D-N.J.; Bob Filner, D-Calif.; Bill Johnson, R-Ohio; and Tom Price, R-Ga., to the bill’s growing list of cosponsors. Reps. Tom Graves, MD, R-Ga., and Larry Kissell, D-N.C., have also added their names as co-sponsors since the first of the year. H.R. 451 would require all health care providers to disclose the license that they practice under in any advertising, and would encourage the Federal Trade Commission to enforce violations.
