Trabeculectomy less successful in pseudophakic eyes
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Investigators compared the outcome of trabeculectomy with mitomycin C between phakic eyes and pseudophakic eyes after phacoemulsification. Subjects included 64 patients with open-angle glaucoma (39 phakic eyes and 25 pseudophakic eyes). At one year postop, pseudophakic eyes exhibited greater resistance than phakic eyes to maintaining target IOP of less than 21 mm Hg or less than 18 mm Hg. No significant difference between groups was noted in postoperative complications or in the number of postoperative anti-glaucoma medications or the number of laser suture lysis procedures.
