Investigators used a custom-built ultralong-scan-depth OCT to evaluate patients at various time points after cataract surgery, from four hours to 28 days. Subjects were either highly myopic or emmetropic. Imaging revealed weak capsular adhesion and incompletely adhesive types of capsular bend in highly myopic eyes. These features presumably increase the likelihood of PCO during the early postoperative period. American Journal of Ophthalmology, March 2013

The retrospective review included 110 patients with AMD, 75 phakic eyes and 45 pseudophakic. Subjects received three monthly loading dose injections of ranibizumab, followed by prn treatment. At 18 months follow-up, the average number of injections was 3.87 in the phakic group and 3.62 in the pseudophakic group. There was no difference between the groups in terms of improved BCVA or central macular thickness. Retina, March 2013

Beginning today, Medicare physician claims submitted for reimbursement will be reduced by 2 percent as part of across-the-board cuts in federal agency spending caused by the sequestration process. Costs for drugs administered by the physician that are included in those claims are also subject to the 2 percent cut.

Medicare Reimbursement Cut Hits Today as Result of Sequestration

Beginning today, Medicare physician claims submitted for reimbursement will be reduced by 2 percent as part of across-the-board cuts in federal agency spending caused by the sequestration process. Costs for drugs administered by the physician that are included in those claims are also subject to the 2 percent cut.
